Kibale National Park is a sprawling 766-square-kilometre protected area in western Uganda, celebrated for its rich biodiversity and dense, moist evergreen rainforests. Established to conserve one of the last significant expanses of pre-montane forest in East Africa, the park provides a critical habitat for twelve species of primates, most notably its famous habituated chimpanzees. The park's unique geography, ranging from 1,100 to 1,600 metres in elevation, creates a mosaic of lowland and montane ecosystems. By forming a continuous 180-kilometre wildlife corridor with Queen Elizabeth National Park, it serves as a vital sanctuary for migratory animals. Beyond tourism, the park hosts the Makerere University Biological Field Station, contributing to ongoing conservation and ecological research in the region.
