Hisar, also known as Hissar, is the administrative headquarters of the Hisar district in Haryana, India. The city boasts a rich historical tapestry, having been ruled by the Mauryans, Tughlaqs, Mughals, and the British. It is strategically located 164 km west of New Delhi and serves as a counter-magnet city for the National Capital Region, aimed at developing as an alternative center of growth. The city’s name, Hisar-e-Firoza, was given by Firuz Shah Tughlaq in 1354 AD. Although the Ghaggar and Drishadvati Rivers no longer flow through it, Hisar remains a city of historical and cultural significance, with a continental climate that features hot summers and cool winters.
