Fort Bragg, temporarily known as Fort Liberty, is a major U.S. Army installation located in North Carolina. It is renowned for being one of the largest military bases globally, housing over 52,000 military personnel. The base serves as the headquarters for the XVIII Airborne Corps and the U.S. Army Special Operations Command, overseeing critical units like the 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) and the 75th Ranger Regiment. Additionally, Fort Bragg hosts the 82nd Airborne Division and operates two airfields, Pope Field and Simmons Army Airfield, which support various military operations. The base's name was changed to Fort Liberty in 2023 due to controversies surrounding its original namesake, Confederate general Braxton Bragg, but it was reverted back to Fort Bragg in 2025 in honor of WWII paratrooper Roland L. Bragg.
