Fort Cavazos, originally named Fort Hood, is a prominent U.S. Army post located near Killeen, Texas. It serves as the headquarters for the III Armored Corps and First Army Division West, and is home to the 1st Cavalry Division and 3rd Cavalry Regiment. The post was renamed in 2023 to honor Gen. Richard E. Cavazos, the first Hispanic four-star general in the U.S. Army. Covering an area of 214,000 acres, it is the largest U.S. military installation by population, providing extensive training facilities for armored units.
