As a key component of the Shield Volcano Group within the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, the park holds prestigious World Heritage status. Beyond its geological significance, the park is a designated Important Bird Area, playing a vital role in the conservation of several threatened avian species. Originally established as an environment park in the 1990s, the area remains a pristine and largely untouched landscape.
