Weather Preparedness
The summit is highly exposed; check weather conditions before hiking as granite can be slippery when wet.
Bald Rock National Park is defined by its massive granite monolith, which rises 260 metres above the surrounding landscape. This geological marvel serves as a natural boundary and a site of deep historical significance, having once functioned as a neutral meeting ground for the Jukembal, Bundjalung, and Kamilaroi nations. Visitors can reach the summit via two distinct paths: a challenging route up the exposed rock face or the gentler, wheelchair-accessible Bungoona Walking Track that winds through forested areas and granite formations. Beyond the main summit, the park features intriguing sites like Thunderbolt's Hideout and historic WWII tank traps. The summit provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding New England granite belt, reaching as far as the Queensland border.
